Business Valuation Standards (BVS)

Ileri Consulting offers professional business consulting and advisory services which include formal and informal independent business valuations or appraisals. We provide Main Street (less than $5 million in annual sales revenue) small business owners with informal valuations that are non-BVS compliant (e.g., our "Rough Estimate of Value" and "Business Price Opinion") and formal business appraisals or valuations which are BVS compliant (e.g., our Limited and Full Scope Appraisals).

 

Compliancy typically requires strict adherence to the appraisal guidelines of IRS Revenue Ruling 59-60 (valuation of corporate stock for gift and estate tax purposes), industry business valuation standards (BVS) including the Appraisal Foundation's Uniform Standards of Appraisal Practice (USPAP), International Valuation Standards (IVS) of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC), or some other valuation standard or methodology.  

Compliance with industry standards ensures that proven peer-reviewed valuation methods are used to develop defensible opinions of value or appraisals. However, the requirement for compliancy and level of formality depends on the appraisal's function and purpose. The level of scrutiny to be applied to the appraisal or valuation is also a determining factor.

BVS compliant appraisals are more detail-oriented and expensive than our non-BVS compliant appraisals due to the amount of time, labor, and resources required to produce such reports. Our non-BVS compliant appraisals or valuations are our least expensive solution. Nevertheless, all of our professional business appraisals or valuations adhere to accepted U.S. and international appraisal practices and IRS Revenue Ruling 59-60.
